One Paycheck From Crisis

Right here in Clallam County, people are working hard every day to provide for their families, care for their children, and build a better future. But too many of our neighbors are one paycheck away from crisis. They’re not strangers—they’re the parents at school pick-up, the cashier at the grocery store, and the young adult trying to start their career.

When you give to United Way of Clallam County, you’re not just supporting a cause—you’re investing in real people, right here at home. We understand that people don’t live in categories — they live in communities. That’s why the work we do often touches multiple impact areas. Whether we’re supporting a healthier community, youth opportunities, or financial security, our goal is the same: to build a stronger, more resilient Clallam County.

Join us in investing in the future of our community. Every gift, no matter the size, helps create real, lasting change. United is the Way.

The Market at Forks Community Food Bank

United Way granted $50,000 to the Forks Community Food Bank to construct and operate their new market-style distribution center. These upgrades bring fresh, affordable food directly to those who need it, giving clients the ability to choose the foods that best suit their and their family's needs, while preserving dignity and choice.

St. Andrew's Place Assisted Living

St. Andrew's Place is the only nonprofit assisted living facility in Clallam County that accepts Medicaid. Since Medicaid only covers 55% of the cost of providing care, United Way funds bridge this critical funding gap. St. Andrew's works to ensure that low-income seniors have access to safe, supportive housing; maintain the quality of care and services that keep residents happy, healthy, and engaged. St. Andrew’s Place promotes independence in a home-like atmosphere to individuals needing help with activities of daily living regardless of income or background.

YMCA Early Learning Center

United Way of Clallam County is honored to be one of the organizations that contributed to the building of the Olympic Peninsula YMCA Early Learning Center in Port Angeles, in the form of $150,000 in grant money. As Olympic Peninsula YMCA CEO Wendy Bart shared at the ground breaking, COVID reduced the already scarce supply of childcare in our region by 25%. This new facility will be an important economic driver in Clallam County as well as a much needed relief to local families who struggle to balance full-time work with the cost and availability of quality childcare. United Way is proud to support the creation and maintenance of early learning opportunities for our communities' children.

First Step Family Support Center

United Way funding supports First Step Family Support Center's Port Angeles Family Resource Center. First Step's support centers exist as places where families can access free, quality indoor play spaces, while parents get help navigating resources and connecting to services that will help their families thrive.

Clallam Mosaic's Downtown Home

United Way granted $100,000 over two years to Clallam Mosaic, to help create a safe place for their clients and programs. The funding helped make it possible for Clallam Mosaic to buy a space downtown, thereby giving the organization the security of a permanent home and visibility in the community for the important work it does, as well as a convenient location for its clients to congregate.

St. Vincent de Paul

United Way funding supports St. Vincent de Paul's (SVP) mission to help the poor and suffering in our community, with a primary focus on minimizing homelessness in Clallam County. Support from United Way serves the dual purpose of helping local families enter housing from homelessness, and avoid losing their housing in the first place. United Way also helps fund SVP's other two most pressing areas: utilities (to avoid the shutoff of power and water); and transportation needs, including gas, car repairs, and renewing car tabs to avoid hefty fines.

United Is the Way Forward

Now, more than ever, Clallam County needs  dependable, impactful, hyperlocal leadership and support. For decades, United Way of Clallam County has been that resource, improving daily life for our neighbors and opening pathways to healthy living, youth opportunity, and financial security. We simply could not support our neighbors and create lasting community change without listening to and learning from others. Togetherness is at the heart of everything we do.

Thanks to United Way who has made [the Marketplace] happen. We would not have been able to do this physically or any other way.

One of the I think that is really great about the United Way is it tackles a lot of the issues we have in our community. I focus on our seniors, but I do care about the other things, the kids, literacy, healthy families, and I know that by supporting United Way, I’m also supporting those causes.”

United Way puts a spotlight on the needs in our community. [T]hey’re the ones who create that bridge between what the needs are and the agencies that are working to address those needs and the critical issues in our community. So to me, in many ways, United Way is a lighthouse for what’s happening in our community. United Way has been a critical convener; [they're] at every table.... For me, the strength of United Way is a mirror of the strength of this community, and it’s been very powerful.

The impact funding was just a gift beyond belief. We had looked at this building that we’re in about 10 years ago. There was no way. We were not ready. We could not do it. And through the impact grant from United Way we now have this incredible space and a downtown presence.
