Olympic Home Share Program

United Way of Clallam County is proud to partner with Nesterly to create the Olympic Home Share program.  Nesterly is a nationwide home-sharing service that connects homeowners with people looking for flexible and more affordable places to live.

This partnership supports our community by helping local residents, workers, and students find affordable housing options. At the same time, it enables homeowners to share their homes while earning income, making meaningful connections, and enjoying mutual support with their housemates.

Olympic Home Share helps homeowners on the North Olympic Peninsula to offer their extra bedrooms as long-term rentals (one or more months), providing much needed affordable housing options to the community in exchange for rent or, sometimes, chores, errands, or other mutually agreed upon services.

Together, United Way of Clallam County and Nesterly are strengthening housing access and fostering a more connected and sustainable community on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Nesterly is an award-winning social enterprise whose mission is to build intergenerational connections while increasing access to affordable housing. Nesterly connects households with spare space to people who are seeking a place to stay for longer than one month.  Stays typically last anywhere between a few months (such as the summer) to a full year or more, and can be renewed.  Hosts create listings of their homes on the Nesterly platform, including photos, descriptions, available dates, amenities, a map, and a personal profile.  Guests browse listings and reach out via Nesterly messaging, answering prompts from the Host.  Guests and Hosts communicate over messages and video calls to assess compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nesterly provides an easy way to find a trusted tenant for over 30-day stays. Most of our community members are empty nesters and retirees who have extra space in their home, and delight in the idea of sharing it with a young person, like a college student, while also making some extra income every month.

Nesterly makes homesharing safe and easy by handling all the practical nuts and bolts including user verification and background checks, secure automated payments and a customizable rental agreement. We also provide on-going support so you feel supported throughout the entire homeshare process.

While we designed Nesterly to meet the demand for intergenerational homesharing, anyone over the age of 18 is eligible to apply. Please read our Community Compact to better understand what it means to join our community.

Note: Any income earned through Nesterly is taxable income. If you currently receive income-determined benefits, such as property tax exemptions, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), State provided insurance, etc., earning from Nesterly may impact your eligibility for those programs.

Nesterly is designed to be flexible to meet your needs. While all arrangements must be for a minimum of 30 days, home shares can last for as long as one year before initiating a renewal.

Yes! While welcoming someone into your home is a big decision, millions of people homeshare every day—often with acquaintances or community members—and do so safely. Nesterly is designed to make the process even safer and more structured. We are a social worker led support team that takes the guesswork out of finding the right housemate by providing resources such as interview guides, customizable homeshare agreements, and ongoing support.

Trust and safety are paramount to us at Nesterly. To help ensure our community is secure, everyone must go through a multi-step screening process before booking a homeshare. Nesterly carefully screens all Guests and Hosts through full background checks. The background check includes National Criminal Search, a Sex Offender Registry, and Global Watchlist Search. Additionally, we require all users to submit at least two references before move in. Our team provides guidance and support throughout the homeshare, so you can feel confident about your home and your safety.
