A Message from CEO Christy Smith

In the spirit of transparency, connection, and community leadership, I am continuing my monthly commitment to speak directly with you about the work happening across Clallam County, the partnerships moving us forward, and the challenges and opportunities we are navigating together. Each month, I will highlight initiatives that reflect our mission, introduce collaborations that are making a difference, and share hopeful steps forward for our community. My goal is to keep you informed, inspired, and connected to the impact you help make possible.

Congratulations, Graduates of 2026!

Congratulations to all the graduates of 2026! Each year United Way of Clallam County helps local students pursue higher education and career training through a variety of scholarship opportunities. Administered through the Clallam Community Foundation, these scholarships, which provide awards of more than $36,000 annually, are designed to reduce financial barriers and support educational achievement for residents throughout Clallam County.

We oversee six scholarship funds that serve different student populations and educational goals. Among them is the Bright, Haygood, Copsey Fund, which recognizes outstanding music students at Port Angeles High School, and also provides support for single parents attending Peninsula College. The Roger W. Hull Scholarship assists graduating seniors and adult learners from Forks, Clallam Bay, and Neah Bay who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. The Anne and James Minton Scholarship supports members of Native American tribes of the Olympic Peninsula. Mac & Phyllis Munro Scholarship Fund is dedicated to students from Clallam Bay. The Jenny Steelquist Art Saves Lives Scholarship provides funding for students pursuing fine visual arts studies, and may be used for tuition, books, supplies, and studio fees.

United for Youth Opportunity

Youth Opportunity is an important part of what we do at United Way. From literacy programs for early learners, to scholarships and support for job training and professional development. We aim to help young people prepare for college and careers, and help individuals gain skills that lead to living-wage jobs across the Olympic Peninsula. We are committed to the continued growth of educational success and workforce development in our region.
